Vintage Christmas Monday: Mercury Glass Ornaments!

hello! today i'm joining in on Vintage Christmas Monday hosted by Joan of Anything Goes Here.

i thought i would share some of my favorite vintage mercury glass ornaments...

i began collecting them a few years ago after i found some boxes of old Shiny Brite ornaments at a garage sale (for 50 cents a box!).

in an effort to display them and keep them safe from our Christmas tree climbing cat, i put them in this bowl that i got on clearance at Target a few years ago. (ironically this bowl was adopted by aforementioned cat as his preferred napping bed when it was empty...though not anymore!)

i like the bright funky retro-ness of them...they remind me of the decorations in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"! (the colors are really quite wonderful in person, but i just can't seem to get a good photo of them)

thanks for stopping by! now go check out all of the other Vintage Christmas Monday goodness at Anything Goes Here!

Oh la la love these all together in the bowl!! So very pretty.
I have the same kitty woes and have to display mine in Hurricanes to keep them safe. I am always amazed when these are thrown in to the freebie boxes at yard sales!!!I have admired your blog for many months now and just love your talent at mixing vintage with modern decor!!!
So happy that you are participating as I cannot wait to see what you post next!!

Hi, I love the simplicity of the old bulbs in a modern dish! How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of my very favorite Christmas movies! Your right the bright colors are great like that! I think I love to look at the scenery more than watch the movie, cuz I keep watching it over and over!! That Cindy Lou Who is a doll! and the way she dresses, rocks!! Have a good one. Fran.

Those ornaments look so beautiful in that glass bowl, especially those turquoise colored ones! Very Grinchy indeed! Sure wish I'd find a box of Shiny Brites for 50 cents. I haven't found any this year!
Happy Vintage Christmas!

I really like them better in a bowl than a tree. Kindred spirit!

The colors look pretty good to me, they must really be something in person. I love them all in the bowl together.

Those are beautiful! We had some in the family that were my grandma's, not sure if we have them anymore. I have a few blue ones that were my gg's, they are tiny.
Like the idea of putting them in the bowl to keep them safe from kitty! :)

Love vintage ornaments especially the ones I received after my grandmother passed. I have been collecting them for years. Hope I get the tree up and finished tonight...

50 cents a box? You are lucky. When you find a box here in Vancouver, you will be paying about $25 a box....at least!
Pretty post - merci!

I'm partial to old mercury glass as well, and collect the little bead garlands. I love how your ornaments look in that simple glass bowl. Where's kitty sleeping now?
