rearranging

hello everyone! thank you all so much for your well wishes! i am feeling much better today...though i was home sick from work the past two days! yikes! lots to catch up on. ugh.

so this weekend, while i was still feeling okay, i decided to do a little rearranging...

i mentioned this painting before in this post, but i decided to move it to this wall where it would be more visible. my great great Aunt Leaflet painted this canvas in 1911, and there are so many things i love about it...the horse, the grey hues, the wintry landscape, perhaps most of all, because it was painted by a beloved relative...who happened to share my love for painting. i really like how it looks with the velvet pumpkins, tarnished silver pitcher, and the "hydrangeas" (yep, their fakeness warrants quotation marks).

and the silhouettes were where the painting now hangs, but they too are in a better place. they are still just as visible...maybe a bit more so. and they look less cluttered than when they were above the DVD stand. (sorry...i don't have a before photo...and sorry this one is so dark!) unfortunately, none of these are my actual relatives...but i've adopted them in to my family! i've even named them...is that weird? of course, you may remember Hazel in the center from this Vintage Black Friday post...i believe that is her actual name since it is written just below her silhouette. and then starting at the top, going clockwise, we have: Harold, Ethel, Frances, Mary, Edith, and Susan.

what about you? have any of you named your inaminate "friends" (or "relatives"), or am i the only one?? actually, i know some of you have, so you better be speaking up!

I love what you have done, and no I don't think it weird you named your photos...as I named my dress form that sits in my room...and I mentioned her by name the other day and you should have seen the look on the pool man face, Lucey, who is Lucey he says with eyes wide as can be...he might have thought of shipping me off to the funny farm, but here I am reading that you do the same...!! I will be sure to let him know, or I will be seeing you at the farm!

I haven't personally named artwork, but our cars always receive names. However, Mr. Hughes used to collect Vargas and Petty girls and he named them. I was pretty concerned when he told me that I needed to come to his apartment to meet the girls and then he named them off... wasn't quite sure what I was getting into!

Oh, I have been known to name a house I like. Or two. And thank you for your effusive, kind, beautiful comment over there. Very sweet - it made me smile like goofball. :)

Love the new arrangements and I adore your Great Aunt - she was just one awesome lady.

I'm glad you're feeling better...

xoxo,

I too am glad that you are feeling better. I haven't named my "adopted relatives" but, like Tara, I have named my vintage dress form. Her name is Shirley...really don't know why but Shirley it is!! Shirley is in my studio and she is my sounding board for a lot of my projects!

Ok, also I love your adopted relatives collection! When I was looking at that I was like you know I want to construct a family project. My bf, my dog and cat. I think it will be very fun.

I don't really see any antique photos or anything of people around here I have to actually go to the seattle stores for those. *gas money flies away*
The trips are fun tho. ^^

Oh yeah, I name stuff all the time. My Carol Hicks Bolton couch is named Babette. My booth hussy is named Helga. I purchased a doll for my booth today, and she's a bit of a floozy, too. I'm not sure what her name is yet, I'm waiting for her to tell me!
Beautiful painting, made all the more special because it's a family piece.
XO,
Anne

Glad you are feeling better! You have done a marvelous job of your arrangements - great eye!

The only thing I've named lately is my ever so chunky middle section - I named her Juanita - she likes Mexican food and alcohol.

I love your aunt's name. So cool. While I talk to almost everything in my house, on the streets, everywhere, I don't name most things. I might start now. I like those cute little velvet pumpkins, and the monagramed pitcher. A lot.

My husband and I named all the trees we planted around our property. I am sure our neighbors think I am nuts as I walk around "well hello Big Jim!" "good morning Bruce the spruce!" etc... but I don't care. I know the trees like it!

Your rearrangements turned out great, do you step back and look at the whole picture and then go back and move that one little piece to its proper spot? lol Love the silhouettes!

I really do love that picture your aunt painted...looks great in it's new spot! I don't have any names for items in my house, but the really pretty things I have a tendency to refer to with female context, like...she's just so lovely (in reference to my favorite ruffle pillow, etc)! Did that sentence make any sense??!

Have to say I love that painting. It's beautiful and old and sentimental...just perfect.

I really don't name inanimate objects...sounds like a fun thing to do though:)

Oh - I love everything about your horse painting! And it reminded me that I had packed a vintage paint by numbers horse picture in a hidden away bottom pouch of my suitcase and forgotten about it!

I love that you name them!! I do too, as does a friend of mine. Love that arrangement of them as well. Nice job! Glad you're feeling better.

I love the silhouettes! I think they are one the most amazing finds at markets. I have 3 and add to them as I find ones that "speak" to me :)
