Vintage Christmas Monday: Upcycled Sweater Stockings

a few years ago, my sister and i made these stockings out of old sweaters that we thrifted, felted, cut out, and then stitched up by hand with some chunky yarn. i love how rustic and homey they look. every year that i pull them out of the storage box, i think of the day we made them. they are so very special to me!

(i should also mention that my sister is an amazing seamstress and should start her own Etsy shop...once her little ones get a bit older, for her sake!)

thanks for stopping by and be sure to visit Joan at Anything Goes Here for more Vintage Christmas Monday fun!

I love these stockings!! I've read a couple of articles about felting wool, and I still want to try it. I can picture those stockings hanging on a big stone fireplace, up in the mountains!
Happy VCM!

I have just recently learned of felted wool (that rock I was under was heavy too!) and I LOVE it! I have seen some amazing items made with this technique and the stockings are fabulous. Wish I were so talented! Thanks for sharing. Judi

I have a HUGE bag of wool sweaters that I have found at thrift stores just waiting to be felted for some projects....but of course they are in a pile with all of my other "I'm going to get to that soon" projects!
I love the sweaters you and your sister used to make your stockings. They make perfect Christmas stockings and I'm sure look great hanging for Christmas.

They do have that log cabin at Christmas feel to them! I wish I owned a sewing machine and may (hopefully) find one beneath the Christmas tree this year. Love this project. :)
